So there were a few minor bumps with the launch, came out a few hours late, the launch build was actually an older beta build without achievements and minor music issues.. but we were able to update asap and patch the issues right away.<br />

For most of the day Isaac was the <u>#2 highest grossing game on Steam!</u> amazing stuff! thanks to everyone who picked it up and did video play throughs, podcasts and livestreams of the game, its been yet another surreal launch experience .<br />
<br />
It might not make sense to most, but launching a game really takes an emotional tole on you regardless of how the game does, so i really want to thank all of you who went out of their ways to live stream the game, sent me awesome emails and fan pics, you really picked me up.... so now to give back!<br />
<br />
Well as i mentioned in my previous post, there has been a lot of talk about a Halloween patch next month if the game was received well, this is obviously the case. So on oct.31st be ready for a very dark and jam packed FREE update to isaac, that will add a lot more to the game... but 1st.<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial;">When i started SMB dev i had a very negative standpoint when it came to achievements, they really felt like </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial;">worthless</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial;"> tacked on extras that usually forced the player to do boring or counterintuitive things to gain digital badges, and in a lot of games out there that's exactly what they are. During the final development months of SMB we were forced to sit down and come up with 12 xbla achievements, but even with a game like smb adding achievements that were more then "check point awards" was tough. i feel like the only legit achievement we added was the Iron boy achievement, an achievement that asked the player to go above and beyond to gain something extra, it went with the hardcore theme of the game and worked so well on xbla we decided to add 11 more of them in the Steam version.</span></div>

Each achievement also rewards you with unlockable content, as you might assume from the images the content ranges from, new weapons, usable items, level effecting hats and even a lil pet! These are the most basic achievements in the game, and probably the easiest to get when starting out.</span></div>

<i>How the hell do you add a feeling of progress when your game is randomly generated?</i> this was a huge hurdle of mine when starting Isaac and something i was very unsure of as the game started to unfold.</div>

Desktop Dungeons added progression by unlocking alternate characters that play differently to mix things up and allow you to continue with a new character if the game grew stale.</span></div>

I wanted the game to be a challenge, but much like Super Meat Boy i also wanted to be able to add content that helps those having trouble (unlockable characters) and rewards better players with more challenge (dark world). With Isaac i came at this in a very similar way but applied it with unlockable content.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: arial;">Users who play the "basic" game and are struggling will be rewarded with new items (shuffled into the game) that will aid in their gameplay sessions making the game a bit easier for them, but players who play well will be rewarded with more of a challenge in the form of harder bosses, extra chapters and raised over all dificulty depending on how well they continuously play. That said, regardless of how you play you will still eventually unlock the "helper" content even if you're dominating the game.</span></div>

At its core it controls like Smash TV / Robotron in a randomly generated semi RPG world filled with powerups items and special abilities.<br /><br />There is not a traditional leveling system in Isaac, instead we used an item system. Every level will have a treasure room, shop, boss and other secret/special rooms that might contain unique items. Special items come in 4 sets, Usable items, Special Weapon upgrades, Passive upgrades and stat boosters. 90% of items in the game stack, so as you progress your character will change into a monstrous powerhouse not only in stats and abilities but also in appearance. <br /><br />There are currently over 70 special items in Isaac, not counting pickup items.<br /><br />Aside from these core items, Isaac uses its pickup items as resources in what i call micro puzzles. the core resources in the game are Coins, Bombs, Keys, Hearts, cards and pills each of these pickups can be used in different ways to acquire special items, gain access to shops and hidden areas, kill enemies and also affect gameplay in many other ways.<br /><br />The game currently has 6 "dungeons" spanning 3 chapters, 6 bosses, 36 enemy types, 4 unlockable characters and tons of dynamic happenings.<br /><br />in the end we hope to top out at 8 dungeons with 10+ bosses and 42 enemy types.. we have our work cut out for us for our aug. launch.<br /><br />As mentioned before <a href="http://dbsoundworks.com/">Danny B</a> will be doing <a href="http://dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/track/sacrificial">the music</a>, so you can expect an EP's worth of new Danny Awesomeness as well, we are also featuring Jordan on sound effects (he did the sounds for smb and donkey kong country wii)!<br /><br />anyway, its exciting to finally announce all this. Developing for console is totally different then deving for Pc, im sure a lot of the reason it was so stressful was the amount of pressure tommy and i put on ourselves and amount of extra work we decided to give ourselves.. but this is our 1st "main stream" game and we both wanted to make sure it went above and beyond and really showed everyone what we could do if we pushed our limits to the max.<br /><br />Im still recuperating from the last 2 months of 12+ hour a day development with no real breaks (this isnt an over exaggeration). my body aches, my head pounds and my brain is sloshing around in my skull begging for sleep i cant seem to let it have.
